When You Know Something Is Wrong But Don't Know Why
Your dog does things that frustrate, confuse, or worry you. Maybe they jump on everyone, bark constantly, destroy things, won't settle, or behave perfectly at home and fall apart everywhere else. You've tried things — perhaps many things — and nothing has stuck.
Most behaviour problems in dogs are not random. They make complete sense once you understand what's driving them. This session is about giving you that understanding, and then giving you the tools to change it.
This is a broad session designed for owners dealing with general behaviour problems that don't fall neatly into reactivity, fear, or resource guarding. If you're not sure which category your dog fits into, this is likely the right starting point.
Session Details
Common Behaviour Problems Covered
Jumping Up
Why dogs jump, why telling them off often makes it worse, and the reliable method for stopping it for good — with every person, not just you.
Excessive Barking
Identifying the type of barking — demand, alarm, boredom, anxiety — because each has a different solution. A one-size approach rarely works here.
Destructive Behaviour
Chewing, digging, and destroying — understanding the root cause, whether that's boredom, anxiety, teething, or something else, and what to do about it.
Impulse Control Problems
Dogs that can't settle, bolt through doors, steal food, or constantly demand attention. Teaching self-regulation is one of the most valuable skills a dog can learn.
Poor Greeting Behaviour
Dogs that are overwhelming to guests, other dogs, or strangers — and the specific training approach that teaches them how to greet calmly and politely.
Inconsistent Behaviour
Dogs that listen perfectly at home but fall apart in public. Understanding why this happens — and how to build reliability across all environments — is a core part of this session.
What You'll Walk Away With
By the end of the session you will understand why your dog behaves the way they do — not just what to do about it, but the reasoning behind it. That understanding is what makes training stick at home, because you're not just following a script, you're reading your dog.
You'll also leave with a clear, practical plan specific to your dog's issues — what to work on, how to do it, and what to watch for as you progress.
Supporting Resource
Darren's training book ($95) is recommended alongside this session. It covers the theory and methods in full, giving you a reference to work from at home — which is where most of the real progress happens.
Not Sure If This Is the Right Session?
If your dog's main issue is reacting to other dogs, fear-driven behaviour, or guarding food and objects, those are separate dedicated sessions — Reactivity Management, Fear Training, and Resource Guarding. Call Darren if you'd like to talk through which session suits your dog before registering.
